U of S hopes to trim spending 'quickly', president says

The head of the University of Saskatchewan, Ilene Busch-Vishniac, says she is hoping to move quickly to trim spending but says the next round of job cuts will be made in the fall.

Busch-Vishniac has initiated a plan to reign in spending.

According to the university, not making cuts would lead to a deficit of $44.5 million in 2016.

Busch-Vishniac has already begun cutting staff, to avoid that, and said more cuts are coming.

"I know there's a lot of anxiety and we are trying to do everything we can and to move quickly," she said Tuesday.

So far, 150 positions have been eliminated.

The next round of cuts is waiting on the results of two reviews, one on programs and one on support services.
