Vince Young appearance in Riders pre-season game in doubt after injury

Vince Young's first taste of the CFL game may have to wait, after the 34-year-old quarterback suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday's practice.

Young, who is hoping to resurrect a football career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, pulled up lame after running the ball in a drill.

The two-time NFL Pro Bowler left the Griffiths Stadium field for the locker room with a member of the training staff and didn't return.

Following the Day 9 training camp practice session, Chris Jones didn't immediately know the severity of the injury.

"Well, any time you have a quarterback and you're trying to evaluate quarterbacks and you get one hurt, it's never a positive," said the Riders' head coach. He said hewouldn't know more until the afternoon, butwon't update the media until the end of Wednesday's practice in Saskatoon.

Until then, Roughrider fans can only speculate whether they will see Young in action for the first time Saturday night when the Riders host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.

"Well, we'll see. We'll see exactly how bad it is and evaluate it and we will make adjustments from there," said Jones.

Young came with as much fanfare to Saskatchewan as any quarterback ever has.

He led the Texas Longhorns to a U.S. National College championship in 2006, which he followed up with two Pro Bowl appearances in the NFL while with the Tennessee Titans.

But it's been more than five years since he last played in a game.

His performance in camp so far has been consideredmediocre by media and he's thoughtto bebattling for a spot on the team, never mind the starter's role.

Young sounded on Monday like he was determined as ever to push on.

"I don't feel like I'm strugglingprobably to you [I am]. We are all learning right now. That's what camp is for so I will just continue to take one day at time and do what I can."

For now, following Tuesday's hamstring injury, it's questionable what Young can or cannot do.

In the meantime, Chris Jones confirmed the Riders have already reached out to quarterback Jake Heaps, who was cut by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week.

Heaps was at the Riders mini-camp in Florida in April, but he was signed by the Seahawks shortly after.
