Walk of Hope spreads message from Prince Albert to Regina

The Walk of Hope is spreading the message againstabuse towards women across the province.

Walkers are set totravel from Prince Albert to Regina, making a stop in Saskatoon along the way.

"Statistically, one in four women across Canada have been abused," said Conrad Burns, one of the organizers. "We're trying to support those women who are in abusive relationships and have been through abusive relationships.We're also trying to encourage people to leave an abusive relationship and heal themselves."

This is the third year of the Walk of Hope, but the first it has been held in conjunction with another event in Prince Albert, Rise Up.

The first year of the walk, Burns walked on his own and could only last three days.This year, Burns is trained and prepared to walk the entire distance to Regina.

He also won't be alone, as five others started the journey with him. Some won't be walking the entire way, but Burns is expecting to pick up others during the journey.

"One person is enough to start the ripple in the water to create the change. Six people, that's six times more than when we first started, right?" Burns said when asked if six participants is enough to get people to take notice.

Burns encourages others to join in the walk and show their support, be it for the entire length to Regina or just five minutes.

The walkers expect to be at Saskatoon City Hall on May 25 and the Saskatchewan Legislature on May 29.
