Welfare cheques late, Sask. government says

As many as 8,000 social assistance clients may not be getting their monthly cheques today.

As many as 8,000 social assistance clients may not be getting their monthly cheques today.

The province says the cheques were supposed to have arrived March 1, but Canada Post has advised there was a delay.

Anyone whose cheque does not come today should see their money within one to two business days Monday or Tuesday, the government says.

Programs affected:

  • Saskatchewan Assistance Program.
  • Transitional Employment Allowance.
  • Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability

About 70 per cent of Social Services clients get their money through direct deposit, so those people will not be affected by the mail problem.
