Wildfire threatens area north of Love, Saskatchewan

Fire crews are battling a forest fire in the Rural Municipality of Torch River, near Love, Saskatchewan.

Size of the forest fire is about 225 hectares

There are a number of active fires in Saskatchewan, as of May 22.

Fire crews are battling a wildfire in the Rural Municipality of Torch River, near Love, Saskatchewan which is northeast of Prince Albert.

The fire is in the northern provincial forest and covers about 225 hectares of land.

RCMP said crews were dispatched early Friday afternoon to fight the fire.

They said residents in the affected area have been moved to safety. No injuries or property damages have been reported.

Crews from Smeaton, Choiceland, Whitefox, Nipawin have joined provincial fire-fighting crews in an effort to contain the blaze. The flames are moving toward the northeast.

People should avoid the area, RCMP said, adding that Highway 35 north of the town of Love has been closed.

An emergency operation centre has been established to co-ordinate efforts.
