Girl, 17, killed in crash on Regina's Ring Road
Car-semi collision shuts down Ring Road for several hours
The office of the chief coroner is now investigating the death of a teenaged girl in a car-semi collisionon Regina's Ring Road Tuesday night.
City police are assisting with that investigation, according to spokesperson Elizabeth Popowich.
The crashhappened around 7:30 p.m.CST on Ring Road between the Albert Street South and Wascana Parkway exits, near the University of Regina.
The Trans-Canada bypass was closed for several hours as a result, while emergency crews and traffic investigators worked at the scene.
According to police, the car was travelling south when it left the highway, crossing through the ditch and into the path of the northbound semi.
The 17-year-old girlwho was the sole occupant of the cardied at the scene. Police said her family hadbeen notified but that her name would not be made public.
The two people in the semi were not injured.
Alcohol and speedwere not factors and road conditions were excellent at the time, policesaid.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
