Youths behind $50,000 in school damage, police say

Three young people are accused of trashing a school and daycare on the Piapot First Nation, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Police said the alleged vandalism took place on a number of days in February and March.

Officers were called to the buildingthe Payepot School and Daycare six times, they said.

According to police, in the school portion of the building the suspects broke windows, blasted fire extinguishes in the building, tried to clog -- and overflow -- toilets and smashed computers.

On one occasion a school van was stolen and found near the band office, stuck in a snow bank.

In the daycare, police said the suspects rampaged a kitchen area, smearing food on walls, the floor and furniture.

The three accused were all charged as young offenders.

Police said the youths have appeared before a judge.
