A Saskatoon man serving a life sentence for second-degree murder has admitted to his role in another violent death in the city.

Alvin Patrick Naistuspleaded guilty to manslaughter this week inprovincial court. He had originally been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 16, 2009, stabbing of Morgan Doucette.

The facts around Doucette's death are protected by a publication ban because Naistus's two co-accused are facing a jury trial at Court of King's Bench.

At the time, police reported that Doucette had been fatally stabbed at a house on the 400 block of Avenue H S.

Police charged Naistusin this case last year while he was serving a life sentence, with no chance of parole for a decade, after being convicted in 2017 of killing WilliamJohnson outside a local hotel.

Naistus, 26 at the time, had argued he was defending himself in April 2015 when he stabbed William Johnston in the parking lot of Northwoods Inn and Suites. The 44-year-old man died in hospital.

A jury did not accept his version.
