After winning a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Brianne Theisen-Eaton has come home to Saskatchewan.

Theisen-Eaton and her husband Ashton an American Olympic athlete are here to participate in the 50th Knights of Columbus Indoor Games. The games involve 300 teams of school age relay racers, as well as more than 300 individual athletes competing in everything from hurdles to the shot put.

"I belonged to the Saskatoon Track and Field Club growing up, and I wouldn't be where I am today without that," she said.

Theisen-Eaton said these sorts of events are very important in developing the track stars of tomorrow. She said giving children access to high level athletes is very helpful in their development.

"Elite athletes aren't around (Saskatchewan) all the time, so to host a meet like this, and get the youth around elite athletes is important," she said. "Most of the time we would have to go somewhere else in Canada or the United States, even Europe to get up close and personal with elite athletes."

It isn't all serious work. Theisen-Eaton andAshton will be competing in a high jump competition tonight, and a hurdles competition tomorrow. He admits their relationship can get a little competitive.

"We compete with who can make the best dinner, who does the dishes the fastest, who can brush their teeth the fastest," he said.

The Indoor Games run until Saturday.
