Bundle up: Extreme cold warnings for most of Saskatchewan today

An extreme cold warning is in place for most of Saskatchewan on Saturday.

An extreme cold warning isin placefor most of Saskatchewan.

Both the northern and southern ends of the province were underthe warning Saturday morning, with only a chunk of central Saskatchewan avoiding the extreme cold.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures in the warning areas couldrangefrom30 C to 35 C.Combined with light winds of 10-15 kilometres per hour, extreme wind chills could drop to 40to 45.

The coldest temperatures are forecast for southeast Saskatchewan. On Saturday morning, Estevan was 33 C with a wind chill of 47.

Environment Canada expects temperatures to climb into the 20s today, with wind chills in the 30s, but extreme wind chills could return Saturday night.

The weather service warned that extreme cold temperatures increase the risk of frost bite and hypothermia.

Some relief from the cold should come on Sunday, when a milder Pacific air mass is expected to move across the province.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when temperatures or wind chills are forecast to be 40or colder.
