A bus focusing on transporting patients to medical centres around Saskatoon is amongmajor changes coming to Saskatoon Transit this month.

The new Route 808, which started last week, carries transit riders between Royal University Hospital, Luther Tower, City Hospital and the Medical Arts Building every 45 minutes.

The new pilot route was designed after the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Saskatoon Council on Aging found patients weren't able to easily reach many important locations using the transit system.

The new route will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST and may become permanent depending on how many people use it.

Preston and Attridge

Starting July 1, Saskatoon Transit will unveil even bigger changes, with the addition of buses running every 10 minutes along Preston Avenue and Attridge Drive on weekdays. Buses will run along the routes every 30 minutes on evenings, weekends and holidays.

The new routes are a part of the transit system's increased focus on major routes.

The new system consists of three major lines: one moving north and south, and two others crossing east and west.

The green line will run from University Heightsthrough the downtown area and end at Confederation Mall.

A long stretch of that route will parallel the red line in an effort to improve the frequency of buses along the busier sections of 22nd Street, downtown and College Drive.

The changes will mean some existing routes will be altered and even discontinued.
