The City of Saskatoon has released project details for the much anticipated Traffic Bridge.

Dan Willems, special projects manager with major projects, said the design for the bridge will be similar to the old one, only wider and taller. This is meant to accommodate the "wider traffic lanes, wider pathways on both sides, and overhead clearance for emergency vehicles."

Willems said there will be new reinforced concrete piers constructed around the existing piers within the water.

A report outlining the financial report is expected to be submitted to city council later this month.

After approval is received from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Transport Canada, Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Saskatchewan Water Security Agency and the Meewasin Valley authority, construction on the Traffic Bridge as well as the North Commuter Parkway Bridge will begin.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2015 or early 2016.
