City administrators want to see Uber drivers regulated by the province.

While the app-based service has not come to Saskatoon yet, the company has stated it plans to expand here.

In a report headed to Saskatoon's Standing Policy Commission on Transportation this morning, city administration asks council to lobby the province to regulate the service.

The report says rideshare companies have left the taxi industry, "in a state of unrest."

It goes on to state that SGI currently regulates rideshare companies under the same class and insurance as taxis, and a special license plate must be required.

The report says SGI is in ongoing discussions with the provincial government and Uber on creating unique regulations for rideshare companies. However, the city hasn't received any information on the state of those negotiations.

The City of Regina has also lobbied the provincial government on this issue.
