City of Saskatoon plans 4 major infrastructure projects

Drivers can start planning fordetours and alternate routes as the City of Saskatoon prepares for four major infrastructure projects for the upcomingconstruction season.

"The plan for 2016 is to continue to improve the functionality, condition and longevity of Saskatoon's infrastructure to ensure these corridors can serve the residents and visitors of Saskatoon better and well into the future," director of Major Projects, Mike Gutek said in a media release.

"To achieve these goals, there will be some traffic impacts and disruption to residents and businesses."

Gutek said the City is working to minimize the impacts as much as possible through traffic planning, early communication, site rental fees, and night work when appropriate.

The projects include:

• Extensive rehabilitation work on Broadway Avenue between the Broadway Bridge and 8th Street.
• Rehabilitation on the Ruth Street overpass on Idylwyld Drive.
• Improvement at Attridge Drive and Central Avenue.
• Work on the Victor Road Interchange at Highway 11 in the Stonebridge neighbourhood.

When the summerconstruction calendar is finalized, the City said it will outline the impacts to various commuting routes, and provide alternative route options.

A report outlining the projects, including the anticipated traffic restrictions, will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation on Feb. 9.
