Convicted murderer escapes from Sask. prison

Police are searching for a convicted murderer who escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary today

Police are searching for a convicted murderer who escaped from theSaskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert, Sask. today.

Roger Joseph Gillet, 64, was not present when the prison counted the inmatesin its minimum security unit at 10 a.m. CST this morning.

Prince Albert Police and the RCMP are now searching for the escapee, having issued a warrant for his arrest.

Roger Joseph Gillet is fivefeetseveninches tall and weighs about 179 pounds. He has a fair complexion with brown eyes and grey hair.

Gillet has scars on his back and chin and tattoos on the abdomen, chin, upper right armand left arm.

He is currently serving asentence for second-degree murder, forcible confinement, robbery, prison breach and escapinglawful custody.

Anyone who has information on Gillet's whereabouts is asked to contact police.

Correctional Service Canada said it was investigating the circumstances of his escape.
