Gormley stays on Remai Modern board for now

John Gormley is still on the board of the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan, for now at least.

John Gormley is still on the board of the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan, for now at least, after posting a controversial message on Twitter.

Gormleyhosts a radio program forNews Talkand is also an author and commentator.

Heposted the message on Twitterthe night of the terrorist attacks in Paris in November. He later removed the tweet and twice apologized on air.

But he is still getting heat for the comments.Twenty-two artists signed an open letter to Saskatoon council.

"His comments have offended many people in our community. They are divisive and ignorant," the letter to council said. "While we understand that his on-air persona is meant to provoke dialogue, this particular rant has gone too far."

The artists areasking thatGormleybe replaced with someone fromthe indigenous or Muslim community.

The board of the gallery discussed the issued at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Alain Gaucher, president and chair of the board, said the board willhold more discussions at itsnext regularly scheduled meeting in January.

In the release, Gaucher said, "John Gormley's experience as a lawyer, policy-maker and journalistcontributes to the work of our board."
