La Loche makes plan for students to head back to school after shooting

Elementary students in LaLochewill return to the school onTuesday.

Community members will also be able to join the students during an open house and cultural event. This is part of a continuity plan to guide the re-opening of all classes in LaLoche.

The plan does not indicate when high school students will return to the LaLocheCommunity School, where two teachers were shot and killed and seven others were wounded on Jan. 22.

The community is also organizing a "reclaiming our school" walk onWednesday. An open house, as well as a cultural event, is being planned for students and community members.

The Northern Lights School Division is meeting with the trauma response team, village and provincial government leaders to ensure a smooth transition back to school for staff and students.

It has been nearly one month since the tragic shooting in LaLoche. The teenager charged in connection with the shooting deaths makes his second court appearance onMonday.

The accused, 17, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He also faces one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The victims have been identified as teacher's assistant MarieJanvier, 21, teacher Adam Wood, 35, and brothersDayneandDraydenFontaine, aged 17 and 13 respectively.

Seven other victims were taken to Saskatoon for further treatment. Four victims have since been released from Royal University Hospital.
