Saskatoon City Council to discuss marijuana dispensary regulations

Those in favour of regulating marijuana dispensaries in Saskatoon will be at city council this morning at 9 am CST.

The City of Saskatoon advises against the regulation of dispensaries, but the Saskatoon Compassion Club is hoping that will change.

"I'm hopeful that this isn't the end of the entire process, if you will. Again, I feel that it's important that I be there to speak on Monday, to keep the conversation centred around the issues at hand," said club ownerMark Hauk.

He plans on speaking at today's meeting.

Regulations would set rules on who can operate dispensaries andhow close they can be to schools.

The city has denied requests for regulations on the grounds that these dispensaries fall under federal jurisdiction.

The group began asking the city to consider regulating dispensaries back in August. Vancouver has already chosen to regulate marijuana dispensaries in their city.
