A self-harming inmate in Saskatoon has now been moved to a non-prison psychiatric facility in Ontario.

Marlene Carter's lawyer argued that she would get better care in thatfacility. She has been at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon, where shehas spent almost all of the last five years tied to a chair or bed in a segregation cell because staff cant stop her from hurting herself.

In July,a judge sentenced her forassaulting guards and staff, but she was not declared adangerous offender. The consequence is that Carter will spend two more years in custody.

The crownis appealing the judge's decision.

Carter has spent much of her life in prison and has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
