Saskatoon's mayor responded toJoni Mitchell's comments that the famous singer-songwriter wanted no part in a museum or tribute in her hometown.

Mayor Don Atchison released a written statement yesterday addressing one aspect of thecomments Mitchell madetoThe Saskatoon StarPhoenix earlier this week.

"Ms Mitchell has her thoughts about whether or not she wants to be honored and its not for us to question that," the statement read."It may take some time but I believe eventually a solution will be found."

Fed up with failed projects

The singer-songwriter is reportedly fed up that plans to honour her musical legacy in the city --from a museum to a cafe to a statue -- have fallen through, partially due to financial constraints.

"I feel that it's very isolated, very unworldly, and doesn't grasp the idea of honour There are so many things I want to do, that I should be doing, without getting sidetracked into these dubious and eventually nonexistent honours," she told the newspaper.

A group was recently formedto look at ways the city could honour the member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Former Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert is part of the group and said they will go ahead with their plans to commemorate the world-renowned artist.
