Jolibois says thank you on behalf of La Loche and northern Saskatchewan.

Member of Parliament Georgina Jolibois stood in the House of Commons on Tuesday to reflect on last month's tragedy in La Loche, Sask.

Jolibois is the former mayor of the northern Saskatchewan community and the New Democratic Party MP for Desneth-Missinippi-ChurchillRiver.

"Mr. Speaker, when I first stood in this house and spoke about my community I never could have imagined that the next time I would say the name of La Loche here would be in the wake of the painful events of January 22nd 2016," Jolibois said.

"As we learn more about what happened and the act of heroism and courage by the people in my school, I am thankful to the local fire department, the RCMP, and other first responders."

Jolibois went on to say "thank you" and "masi chok" on behalf of La Loche and northern Saskatchewan.

"To all Canadians who sent their thoughts and prayers to La Loche and Clearwater River DeneNation, thank you for the comfort you have given us. Thank you for the strength you have given us. And thank you for the hope you have given us," she said.

"With the government's help and support from all Canadians, together we can rebuild La Loche and Clearwater River Dene Nation. Masi chok."

Last month, the small community was shocked aftera tragic shooting at two locations, including a school, left four people dead. Seven others were injured.

A 17-year-old male has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.
