RCMP identify 3rd suspect in brutal assault on Prince Albert carpenter

RCMPare asking for help finding a man they say brutally assaulted a 66-year-old carpenter north of Prince Albert, Sask., on Oct. 24.

RCMP have charged 27-year-old Dallas Fulton with a list of assault, robbery and firearm offences,and issued a warrant for his arrest in relation to therobbery and assault of Orlan Peterson.

Fulton is considered dangerous and RCMP advise he should not be approached.

Two other suspects,18-year-old Melissa McCallum from La Ronge and33-year-old Angus Heathen from Prince Albert, are in custody facing the same charges.

Orlan Peterson's son, Josh Peterson, told CBC that his dad was working alone at a job site early in the morning of Oct. 24 when two vehicles roared onto the property.

Josh Peterson says his 66-year-old dad survived a shotgun blast in a rural robbery through a mix of luck, faith and grit.

"All of a sudden, he saw two vehicles come screaming into the job site. He talks about seeing the dust in the air and, like, the headlights," Josh said.

"All of a sudden this guy came running up to him and shoved the shotgun into his face and said, 'Get down on the ground,' and, 'Where's all your stuff?' And [Orlan] said, 'It's all in the truck. Take it, take the truck, it's yours.' And then the guy hit him in the back of the head with the stock of the shotgun. And then Dad said he could feel the cold barrel at the base of his head, like neck, and he just started praying. He thought his life was over."

Josh said that instead of pulling the trigger,the man ordered Orlan to his feet and into the trailer.

"Once they got into the job trailer, [the assailant] said to him, 'Sorry bro, I gotta shoot you.' And dad said he just buried his head and started praying."

Orlan shifted his weight and angled his left side forward, taking the shotgun blast in the shoulder and arm, his son said.

The man took off out of the trailer, leaving Orlan for dead.

Orlan managedto walk a kilometre to a busy roadway and flag down a passerby. He is recovering in a Saskatoon hospital.

A fundraiser created by a family friend has to date raised $124,000.
