Teen involved in Saskatoon crash charged with dangerous driving causing death

The 17-year-old involved in a crash on Circle Drive that left a 70-year-old man dead has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

It happened nearly two weeks ago, but today the 17-year-old involved in a deadly crash on Circle Drive in Saskatoon has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

He needs help.- Mother of boy charged

The teen remains in custody and is expected back in court on October 5th.

Police today confirmed details about the crash. According to investigators, the 17-year-old was driving northbound on Circle Drive when he struck a piece of construction equipment. According to police, the vehicle then crossed over the median striking a southbound vehicle. The 70-year-old driver of that carwas pronounced dead at the scene.

Serious questions in wake of deadly crash

The crash has led to serious questions. The mother of the boy charged is demanding to know how her son was allowed to leave a Saskatoon court room after he made an appearance high on drugs.

"They asked to speak with me and they said, asked me, and 'is your son high?' And I said, 'yes'. I said, 'but he needs help'."

The woman who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act due to her son's age thought that her son might be arrested in the court room, sinceusing drugs would have violated the conditions he was meant to adhere to.

The mother said she and her family were shocked when the boy's court appearance was adjourned and he was allowed to leave.

That same day, the teenager was involved in the deadly crash on Circle Drive.
