Who's running for mayor and council in the 2024 Saskatoon civic election

Saskatoon will have a new mayor and a bunch of new city councillors after the city votes in the Nov. 13 civic election.

45 people vying for 11 city council seats in November's election

The Saskatoon civic election is well underway, witha final list of 45 candidates vying for 11 seats on city council.

With current Mayor Charlie Clark not seeking re-election, Saskatoon voters get to choose a new mayor from five candidates:Don Atchison, Cynthia Block, Mike Harder, Cary Tarasoff and Gordon Wyant.

Voters head to the polls on Nov. 13. You can visit the City of Saskatoon's election website for more information about how and where to vote.

CBC Saskatchewan will also be airing a live election special that day beginning at 8 p.m. CST.

Former Saskatoon mayor Don Atchison is making a second comeback attempt in as many elections. He is Saskatoon's longest serving mayor, holding office for four terms between 2003-2016. He lost his re-election bid in 2016 to Mayor Charlie Clark who is not seeking re-election and again in 2020.

First elected to Saskatoon city council in 2016, Cynthia Block spent two terms representing Ward 6 before announcing her run for mayor. The former journalist also ran for the Liberal Party in the 2015 federal election. If elected, Block will be the first woman to serve as Saskatoon's mayor.

Mike Harder is the last candidate to launch a campaign for mayor. Biographical information about Harder isn't readily available. His website states, "I will put the best interests of all residents of Saskatoon first."

This is Cary Tarasoff's second mayoral campaign. He lost in 2020, placing fourth with 2,650 votes. He served in the Canadian militaryand has worked in mining, construction and infrastructure development planning.

Gordon Wyant is a former Saskatoon city councillor turned Saskatchewan Party MLA. Wyant represented Ward 5, winning three civic elections in 2003, 2006 and 2009 before he resigned to run in the 2010 provincial election. He served as the province's minister of advanced education, minister of justice and minister of education during his 14 years as an MLA.

For the 10 city councilllor seats, incumbents Bev Dubois(Ward 9)and Zach Jeffries(Ward 10) are running unopposed. The current councillors in Wards 1, 4 and 5 are running again and face competition, while the remaining wards feature all new candidates.
