Saskatoon couple celebrates 50th anniversary at drive-in

It was a match made in hamburger heaven.

In 1964, while cruising down 8th Street with his buddies, Wayne Oscvrik met his bride-to-be Marie while parked at the A&W Drive-In.

This weekend, the couple recreated their fateful meeting in honour of their 50th wedding anniversary.

"We hired a DJ and had music from the 60s," said Marie. "Our friends came and our family, and it was just a blast."

This isn't the first time the couple has gathered at the fast food restaurant. In fact, the pair regularly hold anniversary celebrations at the burger joint.

"It's kind of unique," said Wayne. "Most people will have a more official celebration at 50 years, but we just decided to keep it simple and go back to where we met."

Back in the 60s, cruising down 8th Street was serious business for Saskatoon teenagers. Showing off your car and hovering around restaurants like the A&W was the main event on hot weekend nights.

"We had a nice little celebration," said Wayne. "And I guess we'll carry on going to the A&W as future years unfold."
