After much anticipation Saskatoon disc golfers finally had the chance to throw at some new baskets on Sunday.

Close to 70players came to Donna L. Birkmaier Park to be the first ones to try out a new disc golf course slated to officially open later this summer.

Disc golf is played like traditional golf but with flying discs instead of balls and clubs. One stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown and the goal is to play each hole in the fewest possible strokes.

The second course in the city has been in the works since early spring and after extensive planning, mapping and consultation, the city and Saskatoon's Ultimate Disc Sport Society (SUDS) selected Donna L. BirkmaierPark on Taylor Street just east of Boychuk Drive as the new site.

Gophertown Disc Golf hosted Sunday's event as a fundraiser to raisemoney to finalize the installation of the new course.

The group was able to raiseabout $1,500.
