Saskatoon man, Justin Gryba sentenced to almost 2 years on child porn charges

A Saskatoon man has been sentenced to two years less a day in jail after he pleaded guilty to child porn charges, stemming from his volunteer work.

Gryba also faces 3 years probation after serving jail time

A Saskatoon man has been sentenced to two years less a day in jail after he pleaded guilty to child porn charges, stemming from his volunteer work.

According to testimony at Saskatoon's Court of Queen's Bench,JustinGrybavideotaped young boys in a swimming pool changeroom. He met his victims while doing volunteer work.

"The offender is being sentenced for possessing approximately 9,775 child pornographic files, including still photos and videos," said Chief Justice MartinPopescul."The material was repugnant, disturbing and reprehensible."

It was during the March courtroom proceedings that Gryba pleaded guilty tomaking and possessing child pornography.

The video files of the boys were found on an encrypted hard drive, which police needed2 years to decrypt.

Prior to issuing the sentence on Friday, JusticePopesculnoted the "sheer volume and depraved nature of [the] material." He said the court wasnumbed by the material's depravity, and called it"repugnant."

"The offender did a terrible thing, but there is hope for him," Popescul said. "The change room videos are a form of voyeurism," which he described as "low on the scale, but still abuse."

Grybahad been previously charged with childporn-related offences in 2012and was sentenced to two years less a day in jailin 2013.

Along with today's prison sentence,PopesculhandedGrybathree years of probation, and he banned the man from beingnear pools,parks,daycares or communitycentres for five years.

He's also banned from using computers.
