Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison opposes bridge naming contest

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison says holding a contest to name the new South Bridge isn't worth the money.

Money can be better spent, Mayor says

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison dislikes the idea of holding a contest to name the new South Bridge.

The competition could cost the city more than $30,000 and the mayor said themoney can be better spent.

"To have to spend additional dollars on this right now, I don't think this is really a priority for the City of Saskatoon," he said. "I think we've got a lot more things that we could be dealing with."

He said hislist of priorities includereachinga deal with thelocked out transit workers, controlling property taxes, keeping the city safe and improving roads.

The contest idea goes before a committee on Monday.
