Police are asking for help in finding out what happened to a 35-year-old woman who was discovered badly beaten on Monday morning.

Their investigationbegan around 3:40 a.m. CST Monday when fire crews were called to a bungalow at 132 Ave.Q South, behind St. Paul's Hospital.

"Upon arrival, officers located an injured female victim on the front steps with injuries consistent with an assault," police said in a news release.

"Thewoman was unconscious and not answering officers'questions."

Fire crews put out the basement blaze and police took the woman to hospital.

"Due to her condition, officers were unable to communicate with her," the release said.
