Saskatoon police probe suspicious death at motel on Idylwyld Drive

Police say they found a 42-year-old man severely injured in the parking lot at the Northwoods Inn early Saturday morning. He later died in hospital.

Saskatoon police confirm an investigation is underway into what theyarecalling a suspicious death at theNorthwoodsInn &Suites on IdylwyldDrive.

Officers say they found a 42-year-old man severely hurt at the motel at approximately 7:02 a.m. CSTSaturday,and he later died in hospital.

The same morning an officerat the scenetold CBC News investigatorsare treating his death as suspicious.The forensic identification and major crimes units are investigating.

Greg Kunerdsaid he lives at the motel and was woken up Saturday morning by a commotion outside.

"There was some yelling and screaming earlyin the morning and then the police arrived knocking on everybody's door about an hour later," Kunerd said.

Kunerd said he'd heard somonegot stabbed but police have not confirmed that to CBC.

Guests at the motel told CBCthey are concerned because many of the people who live there know one another.

"There's never a dull moment that's for sure," Kunerd said of his life at the motel."There's always something going on."

Police closed a portion of the northbound lane ofIdylwyldDrive between25thStreet Westand27thStreetWeston Saturday morning. They also taped off part of the parking lot at theNorthwoodsInn &Suites.
