Monday morning will be the first test for rush-hour commuters travelling across the city with one less option for crossing the river.

The University Bridge closed at 7 a.m. CST on Sunday morning, and will remain shut to general traffic until the end of August.

The city is asking drivers to avoid the nearby Broadway Bridge unless absolutely necessary. The city is also encouraging commuters to make their way on foot, bicycle or bus.

Saskatoon Transit still has access to the bridge, as do emergency vehicles.

Pedestrians and cyclists canalso use the sidewalk lane of the University Bridge. However, cyclists must yield to pedestrians and dismountif passing a pedestrian heading in the same direction.

Saskatoon Morning will check inwith reporters out in traffic on Monday to help you understand where any bottlenecks might arise.
