Saskatoon's Everest is a therapy dog for other dogs

You may have heard of therapy dogs for people, but now there is a therapy dog for dogs in Saskatchewan.

Everest is a one-year-old black lab with only three legs. His fourth leg had to be amputated after it was badly injured while he was still a pup.

One of his rescuers, Christine McGowan, is certain he was the victim of abuse.

"We think that it was someone had grabbed him by the leg and kind of slingshotted him," McGowan said. "His arm was just yanked right out."

Everest was shy at first, but he warmed to the love he found at We All Need a Rescue K9 Rescue, just west of Saskatoon.

McGowan also noticed hewas bringing other rescued dogs out of their shells.

"He's a very happy dog and he just loves people," she said. "He loves other dogs."

Now Everest has a permanent gig at the dog rescue as a therapy dog to other dogs.

"They're very scared when they come here, they're nervous," McGowan said. "They've dealt with a lot in their life and being mistreated. We'll introduce him to the dogs and it actually brings the dogs out of their shell."
