Saskatoon SPCA says reconstructive surgery needed for dragged dog

There are mounting veterinary bills fora pitbull thatwas dragged behind a minivan, the Saskatoon SPCA said.

Heroic Henry, a large grey pitbull, was dragged behind a vehicledriving near Lenore Drive and Silverwood Road on Sunday night.

The dog's leash was tied to the van's trailer hitch. It eventuallybroke, freeing the dog.

Bystanders tried to stop the van, but it sped off.

Heroic Henry is now being treated at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

The SPCA expects the dog to have a long, intensive recovery. Reconstructive surgery will be needed. The dog is also suffering from post-traumatic stress.

It's believed the total cost of medical and rehabilitation bills will range between $5,000 and $10,000.
