City of Saskatoon starts pothole patching, street sweeping

City and contractor crews in Saskatoon have been kept busy over the past two weeks kicking off the spring pothole and street-sweeping blitz.

According to the City of Saskatoon, city and contractor teams removed 4,460 tonnes of sand and debris from roadways and patched about 17,000 average-sized potholes with more than 300tonnes of asphalt.

Crews are also tackling the larger utility cuts on high-traffic streets. A city spokesperson said the city has repaired 30 of the 540 utility cuts including at Circle Drive at Venture Crescent, 2nd Avenue, 22nd Street, 8th Street and 33rd Street.

The city said they plan to start heading into neighbourhoods to sweep streets starting May 1 in Parkridge and Meadowgreen. That means people will once again start to see the bright yellow "no parking"signs popping up in their neighbourhood.

City crews will place the no parkingsigns at least 36 hours in advance of sweeping. Vehicles parked on those streets will face a $100 ticket. If a neighbourhood is postponed due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, new signs will be posted when rescheduled.
