Saskatoon Transit ramping up bus routes for Preston Avenue and Attridge Drive

Starting in July, Saskatoon Transit will be adding extra buses along Preston Avenue and Attridge Drive as part of an increased focus on major routes.

Buses will travel down the routes every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, according to a news release.

"With the service changes we are making to improve the frequency, people are recognizing transit as a viable option, said Saskatoon Transit director Jim McDonald said in therelease. "Connecting the northeast corner of the city with higher frequency is another step towards bus rapid transit (BRT)."

In February, the City of Saskatoon revealed the routes for its new bus rapid transit lines.

The new system consists of three major lines: one moving north and south, and two others crossing east and west.

The green line will stretch from University Heights, through the downtown area and end at Confederation Mall.

A long stretch of that route will parallel the red line in an effort to improve the frequency of buses along the busier sections of 22nd Street, downtown and College Drive.

The blue line will move between the Lawson Heights area in the north, down Warman Road, through the downtown area and along Preston Avenue S.

Saskatoon Transit plans on holding a public meeting on the new routes Tuesday, April 17, from 5-7 p.m. CST at the Alice Turner Library.
