Moviegoers attending the film Straight Outta Compton were greeted by extra security over the weekend in Saskatoon.

A police officer and private security staff were on hand atCineplex for screenings of the movie about the rise and fall of the gangster rap group N.W.A.

Saskatoon police said an officer was hired by Cineplex for the screenings. Police cannot provide more information about the posting because it was a special duty officer request, police spokesperson Kelsie Fraser said.

A security worker was observed carrying a hand-held metal detector at the theatre.

Despite being observed with a hand-held metal detector, Pat Marshall, vice president of communications for Cineplex, said the private security company hired for the film's screenings doesn't use wands and none were present over the weekend.

There were no arrests or problems reported.
