One dead in shooting at Saskatoon strip mall overnight

A man has died in what police are calling a "serious incident" at a strip mall on Slimmon Road in Saskatoon.

Neighbours say the area is usually quiet with limited crime

A manhas died in a shootingat a strip mall on Slimmon Road in Saskatoon.

Officers were first called to the scene at around 3 a.m. CST Friday morning and multiple vehicles remained at the scene at noon on Friday.

Police tape formed a barrier around a restaurant called AriaFood and Spirits, and two police evidence markers could be seen in the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. Saskatoon Police Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Services were among those investigating.

Neighbourssaid the area, known as Lakewood,isusually a quiet neighbourhood with limited crime.One individualsaid they had seen a person with a gun in hiswaistband at the intersection adjacent the restaurant about two weeks earlier.

Police said they are investigating the death as a homicide, the ninth in Saskatoon so far this year.
