Smoking and vaping now banned at Saskatoon outdoor public places

Saskatoon's outdoor public places will besmoke-free starting Jan. 1. The Smoking Bylaw will prohibit smoking and vaping (using e-cigarettes)in outdoor public places that are owned and operated bythe city.

The list includes:

  • Parks
  • Playgrounds
  • Sports fields
  • Spray pads
  • Outdoor and paddling pools
  • Skateboard sites
  • Golf courses
  • Tennis courts
  • Dog parks
  • Public squares
  • Areas around civic buildings

People can smoke or vapeon sidewalks bordering the properties.

The city says healthy living and care for the environment drove the initiative. It says studies suggest someone can be exposed to the same level of secondhand smoke whether they are indoors or outdoors.
