From the Pep Band to800 lbs. of West Country Rock, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have a rich history of music.

There are plenty of familiar favourites, like 'Green is the Colour' and 'Rider Pride'but younger fans may not remember songs like 'Eleven, That's Enough' or 'Rock N' Roll Riders.'

With Rider Nation continuing to grow in the past decade, there has been a fresh wave on new songs, including Jason Plumb's 'Paint the Whole World Green' and Wolfpack's 'Sea of Green.'

New generation of sound

When Mosaic Stadium added a new big screen, the Riders were looking to show it off with a video and song. Plumb, a self-described Roughriders fan, said he was asked to come up with something. The result was the now popular song, Paint the Whole World Green.

"It came together really easy," Plumb said. "When you're writing something you're passionate about and something that is as fun and light-hearted as the theme of that song, those tend to come out fairly easily."

While Plumb has created his own special memories of playing live at Mosaic Stadium, he's been a Roughriders' music fan for years.

"The typical ones everyone grew up singing and shaking their pompoms to, like 'Green is the Colour'," Plumb said. "'Rider Pride' is a great classic from the '80s. I still remember the television commercial."

In August 2014, Prince Albert, Sask. hip-hop group Wolfpack released possibly the newest Rider-inspired song, titled 'Sea of Green.' Wolfpack producer Rayne Drop said they wanted to "give back" to Rider Nation.

"Show support to a team that's kind of carried our colours and made us proud for so many years," he said. "Growing up, we're all just kind of brought up with green in our blood."
