Tornado warnings issued northwest of Regina

A tornado warning has been issued for the rural municipalities of Craik and Dufferin, including Aylesbury, Bethune and Findlater, northwest of Regina.

Environment Canada is urging people in the warning areas to take cover if threatening weather approaches

A tornado warning has been issued for the rural municipalitiesofCraik and Dufferin, including Aylesbury, Bethune and Findlater,northwest of Regina.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm they believe could be producing a tornado, which is about 20kilometressouth of Craik and is tracking to the southeast towards North Grove.

The storm could also produce damaging winds, large hail and intense rainfall.

Environment Canada is urging people in the warning area to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. It says to take shelter immediately if you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground orflying debris.

In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, Environment Canada advises the following actions:

  • Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
  • Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
  • As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

An earliertornado watchfor Outlook,Watrous,Hanley, Imperial andDinsmorehas been changed to a severe thunderstorm watch.A tornado watchforKindersley,Rosetown,Biggar,WilkieandMacklinhas ended. A tornado warning for the rural municipality of Huron, including Tugaske, Sask., has also ended.
