Transit rolls out route and fare changes to deal with COVID-19

Starting today, the City of Saskatoon is modifying the transit systemto protect drivers and passengers from COVID-19.

Passengers will be asked to board the bus through the back doorand drivers will no longer collect a fare riding the bus will be free. City Manager Jeff Jorgenson says that's not the only change coming.

"We'll be going to adjusted transit schedules starting on Monday so that we can collapse our core service and make sure that we are maintaining transit service throughout this pandemic," he said.

The fares will suspended indefinitely. Jorgenson added that people with personal mobility devices will still be able to use the front doors.

The city also change its parking rules.

Parking restrictions under the residential parking program are now suspended, along with overtime parking rules. The goal is to not penalize people who are forced to stay home during the pandemic.

Parking pay stations still need to be plugged, for the time being.
