University of Saskatchewan students head back to class

More than 20,000 students are heading back to university in Saskatoon this week. Most spent the day before classes clutching coffee and navigating the campus.

More than 2,500 first-year students arrive on campus

It's a day for students to figure out where their classes are, as the fall semester gets underway at the University of Saskatchewan.

With more than 2,500 newstudents arriving on campus, the U of S has a week of orientation activities planned in The Bowl, including DJs, beer gardens and food trucks.

"Get out and make friends," said Ruby Stefan, who's returning for her second year in Kinesiology, and plays for theHuskies volleyball team.

"Don't just stay in your res or whatever. Go out and meet people and get a base of people. Like a support system."

Homework help

Other returning students said it's worth going to the library and online, to find U of S resources and people who can offer real-lifehelp with assignments.

"There's so many great things there for a first-year student trying to figure out classes and papers," said David Ong, who's finishing his degree in psychology this year.

"If you finish your paper in time, you can hand it in to them to get it proofread and checked out, and they'll give it back to you with critical suggestions and improvements," Ong said.

The university estimates more than 20,000 students will enrol inclasses this fall.
