Sudbury pastor collecting donations for Haiti

Joshua Sklar, an associate pastor at All Nations Church in Sudbury, said the opportunity to help the storm-ravaged country is an opportunity to give back.

Sudburians have heard the call from a local pastor who is collecting donations for the people of Haiti on behalf of World Vision Canada.

At least one thousand people were killed when Haiti was pummelled by Hurricane Matthew, and the subsequent outbreak of cholera has worsened the situation.

Joshua Sklar, an associate pastor at All Nations Church in Sudbury, said the opportunity to help the storm-ravaged country is an opportunity to give back.

"We're so blessed to live in northern Ontario with clean water and safe buildings and all of the things that we've got here," Sklar said, "it's just a wonderful opportunity to give back a little bit and help out those who could really use a hand up."

According to Sklar, Haiti still hasn't recovered from the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.

"A lot of people haven't moved into regular homes, and so tent communities and some of the shanty towns that sprung up after the earthquake were flattened," Sklar said, "so this is devastating, and it's another area where we've got to do something to help out."

Donations can be made at Sudbury's All Nations Church or WorldVision.ca.
