Amber Konikow training for 160 km ultramarathon while she recovers from a car accident

Even though she's moved on from competitive boxing, Sudbury's Amber Konikow is nowhere near giving up the fight.

Even though she's moved on from competitive boxing, Sudbury's Amber Konikow is nowhere near giving up the fight.

Konikow a former provincial and national boxing champ was ina car crash a few weeks ago, and the accident left her with muscle strain and whiplash. But instead of taking time off, she's doing rehabilitation, andtrainingthrough the painto make it to her next twoultramarathon races.

Konikow said shegot into trail running aspart of herconditioning regime for the ring. When she came across an ad for the Canadian Death Race, the boxer laced-up her running shoes and ran 60 km of the gruelling 125 km race as part of arelay team.

She's told CBC Sudbury that since then, she's done a total of12 ultramarathons including the 250 kmFire and Icerace in Iceland.

Next up for Konikow: the Bryce 100 in Utah in June, and the Sinister 7 in Alberta in July.

"I've been training really hard," she said. "Things have improved so much so who knows!"
