Members of the OHLs Brampton Battalion will have their first practice on home ice on Saturday.

But the teams home ice will be located a little further north at Memorial Gardens in North Bay.

The mayor of the city said the arena is undergoing $12 million in renovations for the soon-to-be North Bay Battalion next season.

"So we're actually going to have a very modern facility for our community to use," said Al McDonald.

"Not only just for OHL hockey, but for concerts and conventions, because we're putting in an increased HVAC and air conditioning."

McDonald said the money to finance the renovations is coming from a variety of sources, including the city, the incoming team as well as ticket revenue.
