Aspiring filmmakers will get a chance to learn all about the business of documentary film-making during Cinfestnext month.

Sudbury's international film festival will host a workshop on non-fiction filmmaking.

The DOC Institute, a Toronto-based professional development organization for the non-fiction industry, will offer the session.

Adam Shamoon, the institute's director, says film festivals like Cinfest can help people new to the industry make connections and develop their careers.

"Cinfest is definitely one of the world class festivals that we have within the province and within the country," Shamoon said. "It draws a lot of decision makers and potential collaborators."

The workshop will cover everything from pitching an ideato networking at festivals.

The guidance and exposure will help northerners on the burgeoning Sudbury film scene to develop their skills, Shamoon said.

"There's obviously a lot of talent in the north, but we've also found that there's a lack of training opportunities and guidance resources for the region, and for these talented individuals to tell their own stories."

The workshop will be held on September 18.
