COVID-19 by the numbers in northeastern Ontario vaccinations and cases in our area

Note: On Dec. 30, 2021, the Ontario Government announced updated elibility for PCR testing. Symptomatic testing is now only available for high-risk individuals or for people who work in high-risk settings. Testing for asymptomatic contacts of cases is no longer being offered, expect for those recommended by public health. A positive rapid antigen test no longer requires PCR test confirmation. To date, there is no provincial system in place to report positive rapid antigen tests.The data reported by health units is based on PCR test results only.

COVID-19 case counts, as of January 24:

  • There arecurrently2,738active cases in northeastern Ontario 983in Public Health Sudbury & Districts, 823in the Porcupine Health Unit's area, 98in the Timiskaming Health Unit area, 588in the AlgomaPublic Health region and 246in the North Bay Parry Sound health unit district.
  • There have been a total of19,216confirmed casessince the pandemic began.
  • A total of135peoplehave died from COVID-19 in northeastern Ontario.

Cases by health unit in northeastern Ontario:

COVID-19 vaccinations:

Public Health Sudbury & Districts:

  • 81.8 per cent of residents aged five and older have had at least two vaccine doses

Porcupine Health Unit:

  • 79.2 per cent of residents aged five and older have had at least two vaccine doses

Timiskaming Health Unit:

  • 78.5 per cent of residents aged five and older have had at least two vaccine doses

AlgomaPublic Health:

  • 78.3 per cent of residents aged five and older have had at least two vaccine doses

North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit:

  • 79.4 per cent of residents aged five and older have had at least two vaccine doses
