Ontario Northland crews are cleaning up a potentially toxic spill in the White Clay River north of Kirkland Lake.

Zinc and copper concentrate from a Timmins mine has leaked into the White Clay River from a car that derailed yesterday afternoon between Kenogami and Ramore, right along side Highway 11, near Swan Lake.

A total of four cars ended up in the water, but only one is believed to be leaking.

Ontario Northland spokesperson Rebecca McGlynn says the extent of the contamination will be determined later today.

"Thismaterial is not good in an aquatic environment, however, we're still assessing the situation," she says.

McGlynn says no one was injured and the cause of the derailment is not yet known.

She says the railway is expected to be closed until at least Sunday.
