Detour Gold, mine supervisors face new charges in 2015 death

The Ministry of Labour has charged Detour Gold and three employees, following the death of a worker at the mining company's operation, located about 300 km northeast of Timmins.

The Ministry of Labour has charged Detour Gold and three employees, following the death of a worker at the mining company'soperation, located about 300 kmnortheast of Timmins.

The company was already charged by provincial police in connection with the incident that happened last June, when52-year-old Denis Millette of Matheson was fixing equipment at the mine.

Milletteexperienced medical distress and was seen by on-site medical staff. Despite that help, he died.Police say the cause was acute cyanide intoxication.

The first court appearance is scheduled for June 23 in Cochrane, the ministry says.

The charges laid by the ministry vary, and include failing to ensure equipment provided was maintained in good condition and failing to ensure that an antidote for cyanide poisoning was kept nearby.
