More than two years after the deaths of two women in the Elliot Lake mall roof collapse, a date has been set for the release of the final Public Inquiry report.

On June 23, 2012, part of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake collapsed, killing Lucie Aylwin and Doloris Perizzolo. Several others were injured as well.

Following the collapse, a public inquiry was established on July 19, 2012. Its purpose was to look at what went wrong and to make recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Today, Commissioner Paul Blanger announced he will be in Elliot Lake on October 15 to release his findings in a final, full version of the report.

The release will take place at the Lester B. Pearson Centre on Highway 108 in Elliot Lake. It will be open to the public and to media.

Copies of the report will be available in Elliot Lake and will also be posted online at elliotlakeinquiry.ca.

Discredited engineer, Robert Wood, wanted to have parts of the report redacted. Ontario Provincial Police have charged Wood with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

His case is still before the courts, and he said he was concerned about receiving a fair trial, but the commissioner rejected his request. Wood declared the mall structurally sound just weeks before part of the roof collapsed.
